Character Design and Development
Here is some examples of character design by myself of the main character and the woman who appears in the 'good' projections.
I felt that the man should be extremely lanky and thin; perhaps due the the drug abuse we're implying. Also, his eyes should be larger with tiny pupils, as if he's terrified. There was some debate about hairstyles; I wanted it long and very greasy to help project that he doesn't look after himself, but as a group decided it should be short, due to time constraints. We have decided on a crewcut, which we will paint on ourselves. This is refected in the final designs and turnaround sheets which will be uploaded before the weekend.
The woman should look as feminine and "lovely" as possible. This isncluded trying to make her face and features as 'round' as possible, as women are presented as curves.
Will add more and the final turnaround sheets by Friday.

More enviroment and character research
Here is some more aesthetic research:
Victor Van Dort - The Corpse Bride.
I think that the Stopmotion film "The Corpse Bride" is an excellent example of the kind of look I want to create for the video. Victor, physically would be very fitting for the film, as very slim characters are easier to rig and animate. Also, as our protanganist is a drug user, it would play to stereotype.
The film is very dark, with the lighting paramount to the atmosphere which is being conveyed. This picture illustrates
the dramatic lighting.
The Nightmare before Christmas
Another Tim Burton film, which also has dark undertones. The style is very similar, especially as far as character design for the lead protaginist.

More Enviroment Research/ Aesthetics
Here are some more examples of aesthetics/enviroment design.

This is the music video for Bedshaped. The footage is cut from a short film called "The Butterfly".
I like the use of projections on the wall, just like our own storyboards. The use of lighting and although it is a claymation film, we could use this as inspiration for our own look.

This is by a student at the University of Hertfordshire. I really like the distortion of the walls and the lighting used. The textures are very nice in this too.

Ideas

I like the wallpaper and the lighting in this picture.
By Artist Tine Kindermann. I really like the look of the floor.
A photo from Google - I like the look of the mattress and how the walls are patchy and the look of the door.
Video Links
-Although a video game, the enviroment creates a grimy atmosphere, which would work really well for the squalor; I particularly like 0.13
- The room at 0.47 is an excellent example of a grimy, unkept room. Examples also at 1.12, and 1.29. I really like the lighting at 2.13.
-The enviroment is really good here, I really like the aesthetic of this one.
I will continue research for the aesthetic, and upload my character designs onto the website asap.
